Bon Appétit Management Company Puts New Wellness Resources at Guests’ Fingertips
Wellness @ Bon Appétit offers cutting-edge health and nutrition information
PALO ALTO, CA (January 18, 2017) – More than 1.5 million people visit Bon Appétit Management Company’s custom client websites every month, checking out what’s for lunch and what special events are planned in their café. They can now make their New Year’s resolutions to eat healthily much more likely to come true thanks to a new digital suite of up-to-date, compelling wellness resources and events.
Created by our team of registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs), Wellness @ Bon Appétit includes:
- A robust, timely wellness library of evidence-based articles on topics that range from eating healthy when away from home to powering up with plant-based protein.
- An expanded database of enticing healthy recipes created in collaboration between the RDNs and Bon Appétit chefs. (The turmeric-spiced cauliflower couscous and the black bean brownie bites are already big hits.)
- Bimonthly online and in-café events that celebrate wellness and healthy eating, such as Whole Grains Month or tips for eating to improve brain health.
- The Buzz, a series of bite-sized, clickworthy articles that cover trending topics in health and nutrition (like why are people going nuts for coconut products), and occasionally bust pervasive nutrition myths.
“We have always seen wellness and sustainability as intertwined,” says CEO Fedele Bauccio. “The statement I wrote decades ago to guide us, which we call the Dream, includes ‘We are a culture driven to create food that is alive with flavor and nutrition, prepared from scratch using authentic ingredients. We do this in a socially responsible manner for the well-being of our guests, communities, and the environment.’ The new Wellness @ Bon Appétit takes that goal further into the digital space, where it needs to be.”
In mid-2016, Bon Appétit conducted an online survey of current customers to gauge customer preferences when it comes to general food values, including wellness. More than 2,700 professionals responded. Healthfulness was deemed very or somewhat important — neck and neck with price and convenience — to 97-98% of respondents. More than half (51%) of respondents said they were actively trying to lose weight, while another 21% said they were thinking about it.
“The Internet has become the primary destination for those seeking information about health and nutrition. With so much conflicting advice out there, it can be hard to tell what’s sound and what’s hype. We wanted to provide a reliable resource for wellness information, created by nutrition professionals, that stands out amid the noise,” explains Terri Brownlee, MPH, RDN, director of nutrition and wellness at Bon Appétit. “And we know we’re competing with social media and traditional news sites, so we needed to make it fun and compelling as well as science-based.”
